While definitely old news, Algalon the Observer faced crushing defeat by 10 members of Hellfire Club. He did put up quite a fight, wiping us once, and nearly claiming everyone prior to succumbing in the 2nd attempt, save for Skykomish and Lightbeef, tank and retadin respectively.
Over the last several weeks, Hellfire Club has been revisiting old raids, or “Retro Raids” as we’ve referred to them. Most of these places we have done before, for fun. This time, there is the added goal of Guild Achievements. December 10th, 2010 was our first night, utterly demolishing the raids of Blackrock Mountain: Molten Core and Blackwing Lair. A week later, we returned to finish off the Vanilla content, Ruins and Temple of Ahn’qiraj, as well as BC’s 10-man raids Karazhan and Zul’Aman. Both of these Retro Raids were very short, so we set our sights on a better marathon after the winter break.
On January 7th, 2011, we set out to face the raids of Burning Crusade, clearing Gruul and Magtheridon’s Lairs, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep: The Eye, Caverns of Time: Battle for Mount Hyjal, and Black Temple. We crushed them all in 3 hours.
On our most recent Retro Raid we faced Sunwell Plateau, the lone remaining Burning Crusade raid content, and started in on the Wrath of the Lich King raids: The Chamber of the Aspects: Obsidian Sanctum, Naxxramas, The Eye of Eternity, and Ulduar. This time there was a twist, as most of the Guild Achievements actually required Hardmode defeats. It is also worth pointing out that we never completed Ulduar (even though we did kill Arthas), leaving both Yogg-Saron and Algalon unchecked on our scorecard, much less facing many of the bosses’ hardmodes. However, not only were we successful, we racked up tons of personal and Guild Achievements, as well as reaching Guild Level 10 for our efforts.
Good work, everyone.
